Description:

It is the study and the use of mathematical concepts to make a business analysis in order to advise management of a setup.

Purpose:

To integrate information and communication technology into the teaching and learning of Mathematics and to produce graduate teachers capable of generating interest in the teaching and learning of Mathematics at the pre-tertiary level.

Course Content:

Students will treat topics such as Teaching Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics, Algebra | & ll, Psychology of Learning Mathematics, Introductory Calculus, Trigonometry & Geometry, Computer Tools for Teachers I, Discrete Mathematics, etc.

Institutions Offering Programme:

University of Cape Coast, University of Education, Winneba, University of Ghana (Legon), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University for Development Studies (UDS), Valley View University, etc

Period:

Four years for direct WASSCE/SSSCE students.

Formal Employment Opportunities:

Graduates can become mathematics teachers, bankers, Statisticians, Investment Managers, Researchers in mathematics education, Curriculum developers, etc.

Employers:

The institutions that graduates find themselves in mostly are banks, schools, the Ghana stock exchange, ICT facilities, and research organisations such as the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission, etc.

Opportunities for Further Academic and Professional Development:

Graduates can do their master’s and doctorate in Math, Statistics, etc.

Programs/Subject Combinations Required For Admission:

General Science, Business, and General Arts. Subjects are Elective Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Economics.

In the 2024/25 academic year ranges from 6 to 24

Special Advice to Students Who Intend to Offer this Course:

Students should have analytical and observatory minds. Students should be persistent in overcoming challenges and frustration. Students should have that passion and develop a genuine interest in mathematics and teaching. Students should have organisational skills and manage time effectively to balance academics and extracurricular activities. Students should be self-disciplined, stay motivated, and focused. Students become professional teachers after the course, therefore employments in the Ghana Education Service or the private schools are assured. There is a great demand for mathematics teachers worldwide, so graduates should not have much problem at all in finding jobs as teachers.

Advice to Graduates from this Course Seeking Employment:

Stay positive and persistent in your job search. Also, continue to develop your skills and knowledge. Consider freelancing or entrepreneurship in education. Try to join online communities and forums for mathematics educators. If they are unable to find jobs in other sectors, they should enter the teaching profession in and outside the country as there is a great demand for mathematics teachers worldwide.
