The BSc Science Education program is a system of knowledge. It focuses on the structures and behaviors of the natural and physical world. It deals with substances, life, and natural law. This system is based on facts that can be proved. People train in this course mainly to become teachers of science subjects like Biology, Chemistry, Physics and others.

Course Content

Students pursuing this program will study teaching, psychology, communication studies, physics, chemistry and biology. At UEW, the undergraduate program in the Department of Science Education includes Biological Science Education. It also comprises Physical Science Education.

Students who opt for Biological Science Education offer courses in Chemistry, Biology, and Integrated Science. Students who opt for Physical Science Education offer courses in Physics, Chemistry, and Integrated Science.

The areas available include teaching, farming, and hospitals. Other options are going into the fishery and working in chemical shops or the manufacture of chemicals. Job prospects are more in the areas of teaching and educational administration.

Programes Required For Admission

Pure Science, i.e. Physics, Chemistry, Biology. The program is for WASSCE/SSSCE Certificate holders, Science-oriented pre-university teachers and those who wish to be trained in the Sciences. Applicants must have Grade D or better in Physics, Chemistry and Biology, along with the general University Entry requirements.

Special Advice to Students Who Intend to Offer this Course

To study BSc Science Education students should have analytical and observatory minds. Students become professional teachers after the course. Employment in the Ghana Education Service or the private schools is assured. There is a great demand for science teachers worldwide. Graduates should not have much problem finding jobs as teachers.
