Description:
It is the area of human experience, skill and knowledge that enables a person to create and manage resources available for the enhancement of society. It also trains people to be more responsible when it comes to health issues with respect to cleanliness and hygiene. This course has options in Clothing and Food & Nutrition at Cape Coast University. The B. Ed. primarily prepares graduates to teach at second cycle institutions.
Course Content:
Curriculum studies, Method of Teaching, Management in Living, Introduction to Clothing and Textiles, Fitness and Conditioning, Elements & Principles of Design, Food Commodities, Methodology of Home Economics, Confectionary Science, etc.
Objectives:
It primarily prepares professional, vocational and technical educators to generate and synthesize knowledge related to the world of work.

Period:
Four (4) years for direct WASSCE/SSSCE students.
Entry Requirements:
Candidates must have passes in Core English, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science
In addition, candidates must have passes in Management in Living and any Two other electives relevant to the preferred option.
For Clothing & Textiles Option, the appropriate electives are Clothing & Textiles (Compulsory), Art, Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Economics.
For Foods & Nutrition Option, the appropriate electives are Foods & Nutrition (Compulsory) Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Economics, French and Art.
Cut Off Aggregates:
In the 2024/2025 academic year ranges from 6 to 24.
Formal Employment Opportunities:
This includes teaching, hospitality, working in the hospitals, home economists, textile industries and designers, etc.
Employers:
The main ones are the health service, hospitality (hotels/catering), textile industries and the education service.
Opportunities for Further Academic and Professional Development:
This includes master’s degrees in home economics, hospital administration, or higher degrees in other related fields of study.
Special Advice to Students Who Intend to Offer this Course:
Aspirants should be naturally creative and take the sciences very seriously. After the course there are a lot of formal employment opportunities available or the individual can establish his own hospitality firm, so it is a step in the right direction.
