Over 1000 children at Tepa enjoy free NHIS registration

Over one thousand children in Tepa in the Ahafo Ano North district in the Ashanti Region have been registered under the National Health Insurance Scheme for free.

The gesture is to enable children from underprivileged communities to have access to free and quality health care.

Paramount Chief of Tepa, Nana Adusei Atwenewaa Ampem, as part of his 60th birthday, paid for the registration of young indigenes of the Tepa traditional area.

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) on September 26 launched the ‘Project 1000 kids’ to encourage children’s registration onto the National Health Insurance Scheme.

The project seeks to employ support and grant from corporate institutions and interested individuals to register the said category for free.

Ashanti Regional Director of the scheme, Kojo Dwomoh, hinted at other government interventions to widen the free quality health care under the NHIS.

“With the support of the government and chief executive of the NHIS, Health insurance has added childhood cancer as part of its benefit packages.

“Again, anyone 70 years and above, who registered would have the card activated right from the day of registration.

“This means the aged can access immediate health with the card on the same day, unlike previously that one waits for a month or more,” he said.

Paramount Chief of Tepa, Nana Adusei Atwenewaa Ampem also donated one thousand exercise books to preparatory schools in the area.

Chief Linguist for the Tepa Traditional Area, Nana Poku Bosompem, praised the compassionate deed of the Chief.

“Nana Adusei is a giving person, he has good plans for his grandkids, considering how hard things are nowadays, he has personally donated one thousand textbooks in addition to registering one thousand pupils.

“Although Tuesday is a market day for Tepa, everybody was willing and enthused to partake in this activity,” he said.
