Rosie O’Donnell opens up on her 25-year-long friendship with Tom Cruise

Rosie O’Donnell has opened up about her 25-year-long friendship with Tom Cruise.

The 59-year-old former talk show host revealed that the 58-year-old actor has “never forgotten” her birthday, or any important event, since they’ve known each other.

The comedian frequently spoke about her “love” for Cruise on her talk show, The Rosie O’Donnell Show. The actor was a guest on the show several times during its run from 1996 to 2002, often playing along with the running joke of her infatuation with him.

O’Donnell appeared on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show this week, where she shared details about their friendship after being asked about her past “crush” on Tom Cruise.

“He is the only person who never misses my birthday,” she revealed. “In knowing him for 25 years now, he has never missed my birthday or an event in my life.”

The View alum said despite his movie star status, she admires how the Top Gun star still makes time for the people in his life.

“Every year, I think what a classy guy he is that he never has forgotten my birthday,” she continued. “A lot of people say to me, ‘It’s just his secretary,’ but I don’t believe that.

“I think he knows in early March, ‘Oh, it’s Rosie’s birthday coming up.’ And he sends me something every single year for 25 years.”

However, despite their multi-decade friendship, O’Donnell said she will never ask the actor about Scientology.

“I don’t know him enough to go, ‘Hey, Tommy, it’s Ro, the Scientology thing can we chat?'” she said. “Like, that’s not my relationship with Tom Cruise. I don’t have his home phone number.”

Although she’s not going to quiz Cruise about his religion anytime soon, O’Donnell admitted she “doesn’t understand” it.

“I think it’s a cult and it’s scary. And I think Leah Remini is a hero for doing what she’s done,” she said.
