PUTIN CITES BLACK LIVES MATTER AND CAPTIOL RIOTERS WHEN ASKED ABOUT CRACKDOWNS ON KREMLIN CRITICS
Rachel Scott of ABC News asked Vladimir Putin about how he has responded to political opposition in Russia.
Scott said to Putin, “The list of your political opponents who are dead, imprisoned or jailed is long. … My question is, Mr President, what are you so afraid of?”
Putin replied by equating the jailing of his opponents, such as Alexi Navalny, to the charges filed against the more than 500 rioters in the Jan. 6 insurrection.
“As for who is killing whom and throwing whom in jail, people came to the US Congress with political demands,” Putin said. “They face prison sentences of up to 20, maybe even 25 years.”
“They are being called ‘domestic terrorists.’ They are being accused of a number of other crimes,” he added
“We sympathize with what is happening in the states, but we do not wish that to happen in Russia,” Putin said.
